Through volunteerism, KBR Building Group employees in Greenville make it a monthly priority to support service projects that enhance the local community. On the first Saturday in May, a team of employees and some family members participated in the 2012 United Way Hands on Greenville (HOG) community service day. This marked the third consecutive year that KBR Building Group has contributed a team of volunteers for HOG Day.
United Way Hands on Greenville cites this year’s HOG Day as the biggest to date. KBR Building Group’s team of eight volunteers joined more than 7,000 volunteers from Greater Greenville who collectively completed a total of 283 service projects. This translated to 28,000 hours of service and an economic impact of more than $610,000 for the community in just one day.
KBR Building Group's team was assigned to work at the YMCA Hollingsworth Outdoor Center. Team members included Clarice Byrd and her daughter Kiara; Mac Carpenter and his wife Cheryl; Anthony Harden; Leslie Jones; Ken Olson; and Chad Reid. Once again, Ken Olson, Senior Estimator, served as team captain.
“We had a tremendously successful volunteer experience on HOG Day,” said Olson. “We hauled brush, painted, and completed the second phase of a three-phase observation deck project. There were roughly 50 volunteers at the YMCA Hollingsworth Outdoor Center doing various projects. The director was overwhelmed by the total transformation made at this unique facility and it only took part of a Saturday to do it. I want to thank everyone on the team for their efforts, and for giving away their Saturday morning. I also want to thank the company for sponsoring us.”
